Due to the declaration of a state of emergency by Tunisian authorities, MSC Cruises has announced that it is suspending calls scheduled in Tunisia for the upcoming winter 2015-2016 season.
MSC Preziosa’s winter schedule will be modified from November 15, 2015, to April 23, 2016, to reflect the suspension of the calls in the Tunisian capital city. Calls at La Goulette will be replaced by calls at Valletta, Malta.
The state of emergency declaration followed the terrorist attack at a beach resort in late June that claimed the lives of 38 people.
MSC Cruises had already cancelled port calls in Tunis for summer 2015 following the March terrorist attack at the Bardo National Museum, in which tourists on a shore excursion from Costa Fascinosa and MSC Splendida were among those killed.
“Sadly, the murderous actions of the people behind this devastating attack [on the Bardo National Museum] will have far-reaching and profoundly damaging effects on democratic Tunisia and its faltering economy,” MSC Cruises Executive Chairman Piefrancesco Vago said in a statement announcing the summer 2015 cancellations. “Tunisia can little afford to be considered a no-go zone at this time, but regrettably that is how tourists will now see it.”
