Costa Cruises Announces New "Bravo Chef" Cooking Experiences

Costa Cruises has announced a new culinary experience for guests sailing on certain ships within the Costa fleet, titled Bravo Chef: The Show. Starring the line's on board executive chefs, the show will demonstrate how the chefs prepare the ships typical Italian regional recipes as well as a variety of international recipes.

The presentations debuted on the Costa Pacifica and will continue on seven other Costa ships. To create the experience, a “show kitchen” is developed on the main theater stage, complete with cameras projecting the cooking action onto larger screens for audiences to see. Costa chefs then demonstrate how to make dishes in the traditional Italian style, as well as including some international recipes, preparing them step by step for the audience to follow.

In addition to demonstrating how the dishes are prepared, Bravo Chef also provides guests with tips on serving dinner. The ship’s maître d’ explains the correct selection and positioning of dishes, cutlery and glasses and the sommelier suggests wines that will complement and pair well with each recipe. The format is designed to resemble a real television show, with the ship’s cruise director serving as host.

Each Bravo Chef: The Show will end with a contest where guests in attendance will be invited to answer a question related to the recipe. The first guest who gives the correct answer – via a remote-control button – wins dinner for two at the Club Restaurant.

In addition to The Show, Costa is also offering “Bravo Chef: The Battle.” During The Battle, guests will compete in real time cooking challenges to earn the title of Bravo Chef for a Day. To win the title, contestants will have to prepare a dish with surprise ingredients for a jury, composed of the ship’s food and beverage director, the maître d’ and a guest. The winner will also receive dinner for two at the Club Restaurant or at Burger d’Autore, for gourmet Italian burgers.

"Bravo Chef: The Show" and "Bravo Chef: The Battle" premiered on Costa Pacifica November 18 and will roll out on seven additional Costa ships: Costa Deliziosa, Costa Diadema, Costa Fascinosa, Costa Favolosa, Costa Luminosa, Costa Magica and Costa Mediterranea, where they will be staged on every cruise.
