Another Costa Exec Moves To Carnival
The executive shake out at Carnival Cruise Lines continues as the line stays within the Carnival family of brands to name its new vice president of field sales.
Joni Rein, the vice president of sales development for Costa Cruises, will assume the new duty effective June 16. She will report to Lynn Torrent, Carnival's senior vice president of sales and guest services, who, herself, left Costa for Carnival back in February after the departure of long-time Carnival executive Vicki Freed. Torrent was the president and CEO of Costa.
In Rein's new role, she will oversee Carnival's field sales efforts, specifically as they relate to the travel agent community. She too will lead Carnival's corporate and incentive sales efforts as well as the line's business development services department, which assists the daily business needs of agents. Tauck Confirms New Ship Build
Tauck World Discovery, only a month after the launch of its new MS Swiss Sapphire riverboat, has confirmed that it is currently building another new ship in the Netherlands, though details are still scarce as the company says the new build's final configuration won't be determined until later this year. The ship is scheduled to begin operations in spring 2009.
"We really try to let feedback from our guests drive what we offer on our riverboats," said Tauck CEO, Dan Mahar. "We won’t make any final decisions about some of the features on this newest ship until the fall, in order to take advantage of guest feedback we’ll be gathering over the course the 2008 operating season."
Mahar also said that Swiss Sapphire's design was actually modified in the middle of construction, after the company learned that guests wanted an exercise room and massage studio. Two details of the new ship were divulged: it will have a total of 21 suites and junior suites, similar to Swiss Sapphire and Swiss Emerald, and capacity for 118 guests. Visit www.tauck.com.
