Oceania Cruises' Marina Successfully Completes TrialsSeptember 29, 2010 By: Melanie Gretchen
In anticipation of its scheduled January 2011 launch, Oceania Cruises' 1,250-guest Marina successfully completed sea trials on September 26 after three days of traveling the Mediterranean for the first time. During the trials, technicians and engineers from the Fincantieri shipyard, as well as the cruise lines' marine and technical teams, assessed the ship's performance, including its speed, maneuverability, hydrodynamics and propulsion.
Just prior to the ship's delivery come January 17, 2011, a second and final round of trials will be executed. Until then, construction of the 65,000-ton ship will continue at Fincantieri in Sestre Ponente, Italy. Photos from the trials and construction are available at www.oceaniacruisesblog.com.
Marina's 13-day Maiden Voyage, departing January 22, will take her from Barcelona to Miami, where inagural events are scheduled. On February 8, she will depart on the first of two 18-day Panama Canal cruises that will call at San Francisco or San Diego, both new ports for the cruise line. Then, on March 16, Marina will head on 12-day Caribbean cruise, round-trip from Miami, before heading along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard and then Europe for her Mediterranean season.
