Quantum of the Seas Sets Sail From Shanghai

shanghaiOn June 24 Royal Caribbean International's Quantum of the Seas set sail from its new homeport of Shanghai on three- to eight-night roundtrip itineraries. The ship will homeport at Shanghai year round. 

At the time plans to homeport Quantum of the Seas in China were announced, the move marked the first time a major new mega-ship had been homeported in China by a North American cruise line. 

“Consumers in China have grown to expect the best the world has to offer, and Quantum of the Seas meets that standard like no other ship,” Adam Goldstein, president and COO, RCCL, said at the time. “We are ready to accelerate the growth of this vital market with a ship that will capture the imagination of travelers looking for a one-of-a-kind vacation experience.”

Quantum of the Seas sailed from New York to Shanghai following its inaugural season at Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, NJ. Government officials, port authorities from the Baoshan district and executives from Royal Caribbean International joined the welcome ceremony for Global Odyssey guests at Wusong International Cruise Terminal the morning of June 24.

Quantum of the Seas is now joining Voyager of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas and Legend of the Seas in China.

“The addition of Quantum of the Seas has increased our brand’s capacity to the highest ever in the region,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO, Royal Caribbean International, in a release announcing the ship's arrival in Shanghai. “There is incredible potential in the Chinese market, and bringing our newest and most technologically advanced ship to China will cement our leadership position in the area.”
