Report: Royal Caribbean Cancels Haiti Port Call Over Protest

freedom of the seasRoyal Caribbean International's Freedom of the Seas canceled a port call Tuesday at the line's private resort in Labadee, Haiti, when the ship encountered locals in boats staging a protest, USA Today reports. The protest comes as Haiti prepares for a presidential and legislative runoff election Sunday.

"When Freedom of the Seas arrived to Labadee, Haiti, the ship encountered a number of locals in small boats staging a protest," Royal Caribbean said in a statement to USA Today. "Although this protest was peaceful in nature, it was clear that if the protest continued, there would be a significant impact on our guests' ability to enjoy Labadee."

The ship continued to its next scheduled port call in Falmouth, Jamaica. Navigator of the Seas is scheduled to call next in Labadee on Thursday.
