Report: Royal Caribbean Reroutes Empress of the Seas Sailing

June 28, 2016

empress of the seasRoyal Caribbean’s Empress of the Seas has been rerouted due to engine trouble, Cruise Critic reports. The ship has been forced to sail at reduced speed while its engineering team works to resolve an issue with one of its four engines.

As a result, the ship will not call at Grand Cayman, Cruise Critic said. The ship visited Nassau, the Bahamas on June 26 and CocoCay on June 27, and it will call at Key West on June 29 as per the original schedule. Royal Caribbean has offered passengers a cruise credit equal to 10 percent of the fare paid per cabin.

Empress of the Seas recently wrapped a $50 million renovation project in late May. The newly revamped ship offers amenities including a rock-climbing wall; new pools and whirlpools; a spa with an extensive treatment menu; and a complimentary Adventure Ocean youth program. Empress also has a variety of dining options, including the casual Windjammer Café and fine dining at the brand’s signature steakhouse, Chops Grille. In addition, the ship offers Voom, the line’s high-speed Internet service.
