Royal Caribbean Debuts "Saturday Night Fever: The Musical"

Liberty of the Seas

Royal Caribbean International has announced the debut of “Saturday Night Fever: The Musical," the first Broadway show on a Royal Caribbean cruise in Europe. The show will debut onboard Liberty of the Seas, joining previous Broadway productions currently showing on Royal Caribbean cruise ships--“Hairspray” on Oasis of the Seas and “Chicago: The Musical” on Allure of the Seas.

In the ship's 1,320-seat Platinum Theatre, British actor Lucas Rush will star in the story of Brooklyn teen, Tony, who spends his Saturday night disco dancing. Created by Royal Caribbean Productions in association with Robert Stigwood Organisation Ltd., the show is part of the ship's recent Royal Advantage revitalization and enhancement program. Based on the 1970s film, “Saturday Night Fever,” the show features songs from The Bee Gees including “Stayin’ Alive,” “Tragedy,” and “More Than a Woman,” and KC and the Sunshine Band’s “Boogie Shoes.”

Additional ship enhancements and featrues, as part of the Royal Advantage program, include the DreamWorks Experience, 3-D movie technology in the main theatre and an oversized outdoor video screen on the main pool deck to entertain guests and offer movies under the stars. Onboard the 3,634-guest ship, new amenities include iPod docks in every stateroom and the Royal Babies and Tots Nursery, which provides nursery care for kids from six to 36 months. Using the Wayfinder system, featuring an interactive touch-screen to direct guests, venue and restaurant descriptions, as well as the day’s schedule of programs, guests can visit the Cupcake Cupboard and Vintages with its new automated wine serving system.

Other features include the FlowRider surf simulator, cantilevered whirlpools suspended 112 feet above the ocean, the H2O Zone kids water park, and the Royal Promenade entertainment boulevard.
