Before the commencement of 2017 sailings on the Douro River, Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours has opened a new dock for exclusive use by both Scenic's and Emerald Waterways' river ships. The dock is conveniently located in Cais de Maragaia, a historic area of Porto and a five-minute walk from Ribiera Street, one of Porto's riverfront promenades, the cruise line said.
Douro itineraries range from eight to 17 days sailing roundtrip from the UNESCO World Heritage City of Porto to Vega de Terron. Highlights include wine tastings, exploring the Monastery of Saint John of Tarouca, a Flamenco dance in the city of Salamanca, and a canoeing adventure on the Sabor River. Itineraries can be combined with Bordeaux and Seine river cruises plus extensions in Lisbon and a land tour from Porto to Madrid.
In April 2016, Scenic launched the custom-built Space-Ship, the Scenic Azure, as one of the only owner-operated river cruise ships on the Douro with sailings that both begin and end in Porto. The Scenic Azure has a 1:2 staff-to-guest ratio; private butler service; unlimited complimentary beverages and spirits; full-size private balcony staterooms which come equipped with Scenic's Sun Lounge technology; a vitality pool on the Sun Deck; wellness area and fitness center.
On board, guests can choose from six dining options, including fine dining at Portobellos and casual fare at the River Cafe. As with all Scenic River Cruises, everything on board the Scenic Azure is included: tips and gratuities, local guides, all Scenic FreeChoice activities, and Scenic Enrich events.
In August 2018, Scenic will add to its 15-ship fleet with the launch of the world's first Discovery Yacht - the Scenic Eclipse.
