The first item of note in this week's cruise newsletter is the final installment of our coverage of the first season of Disney's voyage in Alaska, as covered by Susan Young.

Both the Riviera  from Oceania Cruises and the Queen of the Mississippi from American Cruise Lines have left their construction docks. Construction on the interiors and upper levels of the two vessels is now underway. The Queen of the Mississippi is nine weeks ahead of its construction schedule.

Norwegian Cruise Lines is also launching two new ships in 2012 and 2013, and is hosting a new contest where contestants are given the chance to name either of the ships, and are taken aboard for the christening ceremony and first voyage. Bill Cosby is also scheduled to perform aboard the Norwegian Pearl July 24 while it is docked for repairs.

Finally, Crystal Cruises is offering a rewards program to its Crystal Society members who help refer others to their cruises during 2011 and on 10 select cruises in the first quarter of 2012. The rewards can amount to up to $6,000 in cash.
