Two Carnival Ships Change Schedule Due to California Weather

carnival imaginationSevere surf and wind impacting southern-facing waterfronts including the cruise ship pier in Long Beach played havoc with Carnival Cruise Lines' schedule for Carnival Imagination in southern California on Sunday. It's also doing the same with Carnival Inspiration's schedule today.

In a statement, the line said, "the forecasted long swells can make it unsafe to keep a ship's gangways connected and potentially stress the vessel's mooring lines. Therefore, in the interest of caution, the Carnival Imagination was deviated to San Diego on May 3 and Carnival Inspiration to the Port of San Pedro today."

Carnival Imagination arrived Sunday morning in San Diego at 6 a.m. Pacific time. Disembarking guests were provided with complimentary motorcoach transportation either to the Long Beach Cruise Terminal or area airports.

Guests scheduled to sail on the Carnival Imagination's voyage departing yesterday  were advised to proceed to the Long Beach Cruise Terminal for check-in. Motor coach transportation then transported them from Long Beach to San Diego. The ship departed on its next voyage yesterday evening.

That said, the scheduled visit to Catalina Island has been canceled. However, the scheduled call at Ensenada, Mexico, will be extended to include a full day and overnight there.

Carnival said Carnival Imagination is expected to return to its normal homeport of Long Beach on Thursday, May 7.

Carnival Inspiration will conduct its homeport turnaround operations today at the Port of LA’s San Pedro cruise terminal facility. Disembarking guests will be provided motor coach transportation to the Long Beach Cruise Terminal and area airports. The ship is scheduled to sail later this afternoon.

Based on forecasted heavy swells for Catalina Island tomorrow, Carnival Inspiration will spend a day at sea instead and is scheduled to call in Catalina on Wednesday and Ensenada on Thursday, returning to its normal homeport of Long Beach on Friday, May 8.
