The cruise industry is kicking off 2016 with a flurry of new executive hires and promotions.
Canaveral Port Authority Commissioners have selected shipping line executive Capt. John W. Murray as the next chief executive officer of Port Canaveral.
Murray currently is the president and CEO of Hapag-Lloyd USA, LLC, a global liner shipping company in Tampa that operates about 150 modern container ships and transports more than five million containers per year.
With more than 30 years of sales experience in the hospitality industry, specializing in riverboat and small ship cruising, Simonson will be leading American Cruise Lines’ regional sales effort in the Southeast.
Celebrity Cruises has announced the appointment of Alexandra Shapiro as the line's new market sales manager, west region. Shapiro will be responsible for the development and execution of Celebrity Cruises' sales strategy within the San Diego, Hawaii and Las Vegas territory.
Shapiro previously held the position of event specialist with Celebrity Cruises in Philadelphia, responsible for representing Celebrity at experiential consumer and travel agent events, managing site inspections, negotiations and operational logistics. Shapiro also has worked as field marketing specialist for Wolverine Worldwide, representing Merrell outdoor recreational products to such retailers as Nordstrom and Sports Authority in Southern California, San Diego and Arizona. Shapiro holds a bachelor’s degree in Strategic and Organizational Communications from Temple University, where she played Division 1 lacrosse.
Crystal Cruises has made an array of changes to its executive team as the brand continues its ongoing expansion.
Former Vice President of International Sales and Marketing Phillip Ordever will now serve as vice president and managing director for Crystal River Cruises and will be responsible for developing strategy and managing the key sales and marketing functions for the new brand extension. Helen Beck has been named as Ordever's successor and the new vice president of international sales and marketing.
Ordever will report to both Thomas Mazloum, chief operating officer, and Carmen Roig, senior vice president of marketing and sales. He will be based in Amsterdam at the operational headquarters for Crystal River Cruises.
Finally, Fathom has appointed Ron Fenska as the company's vice president of sales. In this role, Fenska will be responsible for leading the brand's overall sales strategies and initiatives, including managing and oversight of group travel, travel professionals, and emerging segments. He will also help to identify new markets and develop and implement offers and incentives. He will report directly to Tara Russell, president of Fathom and global impact lead for Carnival Corporation.
