This Week in Cruise: Discussions Pick Up on Southern Caribbean Cruise Initiative; CoNexion Opens for Registration

Gerald Hadeed, Trinidad and Tobago’s minister of tourism, recently attended the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Conference and Trade show in St. Maarten to hold high level talks with ministers of tourism of Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent on the Southern Caribbean Cruise Initiative (SCCI)

Hadeed held discussions with his counterparts from Grenada, St. Vincent and St. Lucia, resulting in agreement to sign the Memorandum of Understanding to implement the SCCI within a one-month period. It was also agreed to launch the SCCI at the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) meeting in the Dominican Republic in June.

Nexion opened registration for its CoNexion 2015 annual conference aboard Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Getaway, Sept. 26 through Oct. 3, 2015. This will be the first time in Nexion’s history that conference will be held at sea. The event also marks Nexion’s 20th anniversary.

CoNexion 2015 will include industry speakers, new educational workshops, a trade show, supplier roundtables and networking events. The seven-night sailing will depart from Miami, Fla., and cruise through the Eastern Caribbean with ports of call in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands; Tortola, British Virgin Islands; and Nassau, Bahamas.

After 21 years with Holland America Lines, Joe Slattery has been promoted to SVP, global marketing and sales. Slattery’s new position will include overseeing marketing and distribution in all worldwide markets which support the company’s revenue growth objectives. 

Slattery will report to Richard Meadows, Holland America Line’s EVP, sales, marketing and guest programs. Meadows credits Slattery’s guidance and leadership for their offices' success in Rotterdam, the U.K and Australia.
