This Week in Cruise: New 2016 Itineraries From Canada to the Mekong

adventure canadaMore big itinerary updates are available for the 2016 season, ranging from a contest for travel agents looking to sell the Canadian Arctic to new sailings on the Mekong River. We've rounded up the latest. 

Adventure Canada has announced a new contest for travel agents aimed at selling the company's 2016 expeditions before March 1, 2016. 

The new contests is launching along with the company's latest brochure, which details its nine expeditions for the 2016 season (ranging from Sable Island to the Saint Lawrence River, from Labrador to the Northwest Passage and beyond), explores its 198-passenger expedition ship Ocean Endeavour, and highlights its staff and partnerships, including Nikon and The Explorers Club.

Up until March 1, 2016, Adventure Canada’s top selling agent will win a grand prize of passage for two on any one of Adventure Canada's Heart of the Arctic, Arctic Safari, Arctic Explorer, Into the Northwest Passage and Out of the Northwest Passage itineraries. Second prize is passage for two on one of Adventure Canada's east coast expeditions -- Sable Island, Newfoundland Circumnavigation or Greenland & Wild Labrador. Third prize is passage for two on Adventure Canada’s Mighty Saint Lawrence expedition. 

In Alaska, AdventureSmith Explorations is offering a series of National Park cruises for 2016 in celebration of the National Park centennial. Itineraries in the San Juan Islands and on Oregon's Columbia River are also available. 

In Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, travelers can choose from three eight-day programs: Exploring Muir’s Wilderness on the 84-guest Safari Endeavor; Northern Passages & Glacier Bay on the 60-guest Wilderness Adventurer, 74-guest Wilderness Explorer or 76-guest Wilderness Discoverer; and Discoverers Glacier Country on the 22-guest Safari Quest, the 36-guest Safari Explorer, the Wilderness Adventurer or the Safari Endeavour. The six-day Glacier Bay Adventure Cruise is the only Inside Passage small ship cruise that spends most of its itinerary inside the park. In Kenai Fjords National Park, on the edge of the Kenai Peninsula south of Anchorage, a number of lodge-based itineraries allow guests to spend time on the water boating through Kenai Fjords.

In Washington's Olympic National Park, the Olympic Wilderness & San Juan Islands is an eight-day-expedition on the Wilderness Adventurer or the Wilderness Discoverer. Kayaks and paddleboards sail aboard, allowing guests to actively explore the park’s coves and canals.  

Lewis & Clark National Historical Park at Fort Clatsop in Astoria, Oregon, offers two small ship itineraries on the Columbia and Snake Rivers. The Columbia & Snake Rivers Journey over seven days highlights the culture, history, food and wine of the Pacific Northwest, with an emphasis on local cuisine through a new affiliation with the Food Alliance. Guests will be on board either 62-passenger National Geographic Sea Bird or 62-passenger National Geographic Sea Lion. Over eight days on Legacy of Discovery guests aboard the 88-guest S.S. Legacy traverse the Columbia River Gorge.

Finally, Scenic has announced its lineup of eight new river cruise itineraries for 2016 on the Mekong River in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Thailand

The new trips will sail on a new, purpose-built river cruise ship, the Scenic Spirit. The ship's 34 private balcony suites are being billed as the largest on the Mekong, with sizes ranging up to 861 square feet. 

Ashore, Scenic will be offering new Scenic Enrich immersion events and Freechoice activities. Itineraries ranging from eight to 27 days are priced from $2,445 per person, double.
