It’s been another busy week for new cruise ship updates.
Silversea released new details on the dining experiences available onboard its new flagship Silver Muse, which is set to launch in April 2017.
The ship will sail with eight restaurants, including the French fine dining restaurant La Dame, developed through the line’s exclusive partnership with Relais & Châteaux, as well as the newly announced Silver Note, which is meant to pay tribute to famous Manhattan jazz clubs with live performances and tapas-style dishes. Rounding out the onboard options are Hot Rocks, a “make your own” style restaurant that sees guests cooking for themselves at their table, as well as the Italian restaurants La Terrazzo and Regina Margherita, and Atlantide, a seafood restaurant.
In small ship news, expedition cruise line Australis has announced plans for the new Ventus Australis, which will offer four-night sailings (eight nights combinable) in Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego starting in January 2018.
The ship, whose name is Latin for “Southern Wind,” will carry 210 passengers and have design elements meant to help it maneuver in the narrow fjords and channels of the region, Australis said.
In Case You Missed It: Disney’s Marvel Days at Sea, New Orleans’ New Terminal
In other top cruise headlines of the week, Disney Cruise Line has announced plans for new Marvel Day at Sea events, available on select Disney Magic sailings from New York in fall 2017.
On one sea day on each select sailing, guests will have a chance to take part in interactions with Marvel characters, a deck party, Marvel-themed youth actives, special merchandise and unique food and beverage offerings.
Guests will also have a chance to check out exclusive at-sea screenings of films from the Marvel universe, as well as viewings of the Disney XD shows Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
The Marvel Day at Sea will be available on seven- and eight-night Disney Magic Bahamian cruises departing from New York on October 6, 14, 28 and November 11 and 18, 2017. All sailings will include a stop at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, and Port Canaveral, FL, with a day at the Walt Disney World Resort. The Marvel Day at Sea will also be on one seven-night Canadian Coast cruise departing from New York on October 21, 2017, with stops at Charlottetown, Sydney and Halifax.
In port news, the Port of New Orleans is considering an expansion as the facility looks to pass last year’s record number of cruise ship passengers, Houmatoday.com reports. Plans call for the construction of another cruise ship terminal following repair work to the existing Poland Avenue wharf structure. The repair work could cost about $15 million and take about one year, with the finished terminal clocking in at around $50 million.
New Orleans hosted over 1 million cruise passengers in 2015, with the Carnival Triumph, Carnival Dream and Norwegian Dawn sailing regularly from the city. American Cruise Lines and American Queen Steamboat Co. also offer river cruises from New Orleans, with Viking River Cruises planning to make the city a home port for its first U.S. river cruises.
