This Week in Cruise: Oceania Cruises' New 180-Day Journey; Star Clippers Completes Update of Two Ships

Oceania Cruises revealed an additional 180-day journey aboard the newly refurbished Insignia, scheduled to depart on January 4, 2016. Reservations for the voyage go on sale July 30, 2014. Insignia will sail from Miami to the Caribbean, South America, Africa, Asia, Australia, Los Angeles and then returns to Mimai through the Panama Canal.

Guests reserving their suite or stateroom by Oct. 31, 2014, will receive two-for-one cruise fares, free First Class roundtrip airfare from major U.S. and Canadian gateways and early booking savings of up to 71 percent.

Star Clippers completed revitalizing the Star Flyer and Star Clipper, updating the ships' decor and furnishings in all cabins. Star Clipper received a fresh coat of paint and varnish, as well as new upholstery in its dining room. The revitalizations are part of Star Clippers' rolling refurbishment program -- Royal Clipper received the same treatment and more in 2013, with new carpeting throughout and all bathrooms rejuvenated, while the public areas on Star Flyer were refurbished in 2012.

Royal Clipper, Star Clipper and Star Flyer are sailing the Mediterranean summer 2014, cruising the coasts of Italy, Spain, France, Montenegro and Croatia; the Balearics; the Aegean; and North Africa.

Yet another cruise line has altered its smoking policy. Norwegian Cruise Line is now prohibiting smoking on stateroom balconies, and is limiting smoking to casinos to players. In addition to this, smoking on Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway's 'The Waterfront' will be permitted on the starboard side, apart from the ship's outdoor dining areas.

These changes go into effect November 1, 2014.
