This Week in Cruise: Voyages of Discovery Updates Image; Big Appointment at Norwegian

Voyages of Discovery launched a new brand identity in North America, including an updated corporate logo, messaging and a re-designed Web site. Starting with the Winter 2015-2106 season, the line is also debuting a simplified stateroom category selection and the introduction of add-on packages, both based on the results of a recent customer survey.

In celebration of this re-launch, Voyages of Discovery is offering savings of up to $3,000 per stateroom on current summer 2015 itineraries (departing April 16 through Oct. 17, 2015) for bookings made by Nov. 30, 2014. These cruises also include gratuities, airfare and transfers from select gateways, with other gateways available starting at $149 per person.

Hospitality veteran Drew Madsen was appointed president and COO of Norwegian Cruise Line. Madsen has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the hospitality and consumer products industry, most recently as president and COO at Darden Restaurants.

Prior to Darden, Drew held leadership and marketing positions at James River Corporation and General Mills, among others. Madsen holds a master of business administration with distinction from the University of Michigan and a bachelor’s degree in economics from DePauw University.

“Having delivered exceptional results during his tenure at Darden, Drew has a wealth of experience to draw upon as he joins Norwegian,” said Kevin Sheehan, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.

Carnival Cruise Lines held a traditional keel-laying ceremony for the 3,954-passenger Carnival Vista at Fincantieri. The 133,500-ton vessel is set to debut in spring 2016.

The Carnival Vista is the 25th vessel in the Carnival fleet, and will have multiple of the line's Fun Ship 2.0 dining, bar and entertainment offerings as well as several amenities unique to this vessel. Additional design details, as well as homeport and itinerary information, are expected to be unveiled early 2015.
