Pearl Seas Cruises has had to cancel some of its Cuba cruises because it has been unable to secure approval from the Cuban government, USA Today reports. The small ship line has had to cancel its March 6, March 16, March 26, April 5 and April 15 departures.

The spring 2016 Cuba sailings, which were announced last year, would have taken place aboard the Pearl Mist from South Florida with calls at several Cuban ports, including Havana, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba.

"We expected we would have approval, however the process has taken longer than anticipated," a representative of Pearl Seas Cruises tells Travel Agent. "We made several trips to Cuba and met with the Cuban government several times, and we have not been denied. Our relationship with the Cuban government has been outstanding, and we continue to be encouraged by the Cuban government. We’re still hopeful for the April 25 sailing."

"We are doing everything to take very good care of our guests who were on a canceled sailing," Pearl Seas Cruises said. "Most passengers have rebooked on other cruises, either fall Cuba cruises or other cruises of ours, and have been offered discounts on future cruises as well. Those passengers who wish to be refunded will receive full refunds immediately."
