Rocco Forte Hotel Opens in PragueMay 13, 2009 By: Jena Tesse Fox
The Rocco Forte Collection opened The Augustine on May 14 in Prague, making it the company’s 12th property. The hotel will be offering guests a special opening rate of $436 per room, per night, available until August 31.
Located in Prague’s Malá Strana district in the heart of the city, The Augustine is a short walk from the Prague Castle, the Wallenstein Gardens and the famous Charles Bridge and within easy reach of the Golden City’s many tourist attractions. The 101-bedroom hotel has been created from a set of seven buildings, including the 13th-century Augustinian St. Thomas’s Monastery, after which the hotel is named. Several practicing monks still live in a separate part of the monastery, adjacent to the hotel grounds.
The Augustine’s historic features have been restored and carefully crafted into the hotel’s design by London-based design company RDD under the guidance of Olga Polizzi, The Rocco Forte Collection’s director of design. The hotel’s bedrooms feature views over the courtyards, the monastery chapel or Prague Castle. The suites will include an impressive 1,615 square foot Presidential Suite and a Tower Suite located in the monastery’s original tower.
The Augustine will offer four private rooms suitable for exclusive events, dinners and meetings as well as a 2,110-square-foot ballroom in a double-height vaulted hall, ideal for weddings and parties. For relaxation, the hotel’s spa will feature four treatment rooms, a hammam offering heat treatments, a steam room, relaxation area and an 860-square-foot gym. The 90-seat Monastery restaurant will overlook a large courtyard with outside seating during the summer months. Guests can visit two bars in the hotel; Tom’s Bar, located in the monastery’s former barrel-vaulted double-height hall and The Brewery bar, housed in the cellar, in the former St. Thomas’s brewery building, complete with 17th-century stalactites and stalagmites.
The opening rate of $436 per room, per night includes overnight accommodation with breakfast, a Taste of Bohemia cocktail served with canapés and a 30-minute tour of the Malá Strana district by horse-drawn carriage. Offer available until August 31. To book, or for further information, call 888-667-9477 or visit www.roccofortecollection.com.
