Air Service Between Lee County, Fla., and Denmark to BeginDecember 22, 2010 By: Staff
Non-stop service between Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) and Denmark will begin on June 14, 2011, according to the Lee County Visitor & Convention Bureau. The flights, operated by Scandinavian tour operator Comefly, will run twice a week between Fort Myers and Copenhagen (CPH) and Aalborg (AAL), Denmark. This is the first time RSW has offered nonstop service to Scandinavia.
“We are very excited and proud to be the destination selected for the nonstop flight from Denmark to Florida. This is a result of a collaborative destination marketing effort among Southwest Florida International Airport, Collier County CVB and the Lee County VCB, as well as our hotel and attraction partners,” said Tamara Pigott, executive director of the VCB. “Denmark is an emerging international tourist feeder market for our area and we are looking forward to welcoming a growing number of Scandinavian visitors to Florida.”
The Denmark service will be provided by Monarch Airlines utilizing an A330 aircraft with a two-class configuration of 358 seats. Monarch is one of the United Kingdom’s major providers of low-cost scheduled flights, but also is a key supplier of aircraft and seats to the tour operating industry.
Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark, offers dining, five-star hotels, innovative design and architecture. Aalborg, originally settled by the Vikings, is the fourth-largest city in Denmark and has developed into one of the busiest trading centers in the country.
