Study: Riviera Maya, Costa Rica Considered Top Wedding Destinations in Mexico, Latin America

Travel Agent was able to get our hands of the recently released The Knot Market Intelligence: 2012 Destination Weddings Study and found that the Riviera Maya was the most common choice for a wedding destination in Mexico while Costa Rica topped the list for Latin American destinations.

Wedding website, TheKnot.com, polled 2,757 qualified respondents and found that 32 percent cited the Riviera Maya as top wedding destination in Mexico while Los Cabos notched 20 percent of the vote and Cancun netted 14 percent.

This means that a whopping 66 percent of all destinations in Mexico take place in either the Riviera Maya, Los Cabos or Cancun. Puerto Vallarta, however, wasn’t too far behind Cancun, netting 11 percent of the vote while Cozumel, Tulum and Isla Mujeres all received 3 percent.

As far as Latin America goes, the study found that a whopping one out of every four destination weddings takes place in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica, in fact, netted 36 percent of the vote while Nicaragua finished a surprising second with 13 percent of the vote. Belize and Brazil both tied for third with 11 percent while Panama received 6 percent. Colombia and Guatemala both received 4 percent.
