The wreck of El Aguila
The wreck of El Aguila is a popular diving spot in Roatan.

From scuba diving with whale sharks to exciting ziplining tours, Honduras has it all for your clients seeking some outdoor adventures.

Scuba Diving

There isn’t a bad spot here for scuba diving, but if your clients are looking to push the envelope a bit, suggest they go diving with whale sharks. March through May is prime whale shark season on Utila Island, and Laguna Beach Resort is the perfect property to play host.

Laguna Beach’s palm-fringed peninsula divides a mangrove lagoon and the Caribbean Sea. Surrounded by coral reefs, this resort is a diver’s paradise. The private beach, whale shark-shaped pool, kayaks and complimentary horseback riding are perfect for soft adventurers.

Agents can contact Arlene White (337-893-0013, [email protected] or [email protected]) for details.

One of the island of Roatan's best resorts for dive is Anthony’s Key Resort. Here, guests dive with dolphins and go on excursions to remote diving and snorkeling destinations.

Agents should contact General Manager Samir Galindo (800-227-3483, [email protected]) with queries.

Canopy Tours

One of the most popular ziplines in Honduras is the Monkey Trail Canopy at Gumbalimba Park in Roatan. The tour, which includes 11 ziplines, beginning with about a 40-minute hike from the Coxen’s Cave entrance of the park. After a quick orientation on safety features and techniques, guests head to the first tree platform about 60 feet high.

In Copan, the Hotel Marina Copan can arrange hikes, ziplining and other activities. Founded in 1946, the hotel recently renovated its original wing, which has an “of-the-house” architecture, bearing Spanish colonial influence.

The wing now boasts spacious rooms, fully appointed bathrooms with Jacuzzis, top-class amenities and soundproof windows. We’re told the best accommodations are the Premium Rooms.

Agents should call 800-893-9131 and ask for owner Juan Angel Welchez.

Whitewater Rafting

For rafting excursions, we suggest La Moskitia Ecoaventuras. One of the more popular expeditions offered is a three-day/two-night excursion that takes guests to the tropical rain forest of Pico Bonito National Park. It includes whitewater rafting in the rapids of Río Cangrejal, near La Ceiba.

Guests camp in the park for a night, hike along the nature trails and take in the Bonito River. The four-hour rafting session on the Cangrejal River on the third day will include instructions on the use of the raft and practical training exercises.

Agents should contact Jorge Salaverri (011-504-440-2124, moskitiaeco [email protected]) for details.
