Small Luxury Hotels Adds South America

Small Luxury Hotels of the World has expanded its South American portfolio with the addition of Inkaterra Machu Picchu Hotel in Peru and Correntoso Lake and River Hotel in Patagonia, Argentina. The Inkaterra Machu Picchu Hotel lies within the Machu Picchu Historical Sanctuary. Whitewashed cottages give the 85-room hotel the appearance of an Andean village. Accommodation choices include casitas, suites that offer a range of features including private heated pools, gardens with terraces and 24/7 private butler service, as well as colonial furniture, iPod speakers, DVD players, WI FI Internet, fireplaces, in-room dining and 100 percent pima cotton sheets. Rates start at $350 per night. Rooms numbered 43, 45, 47, 48, 49, 65, 73, 75, 77, 79 and 87 have great views of the Urubamba river. Those guests preferring views of orchids should choose rooms 83 to 86.

The resort's UNU Spa combines the classic spa concept with a mystical Andean approach. All the spa products are 100 percent natural, derived from local botanical extracts.

A glass-walled restaurant and adjacent terraces offer views of the Urumbamba river and the Andes mountain range.

Most guests arrive in Cusco airport and then take a three hour train ride to Machu Picchu; the hotel is next to the Machu Picchu train station.

The CorrentosoLake and River Hotel is located inside the NaheulHaupiNational Park, 48 miles from Bariloches International airport. The hotel looks out over the mouth of the Correntoso river where it meets Lake Nahuel Huapi in Patagonia.

The 27-room hotel, which dates back to 1917, was renovated in 2006. All rooms have a view of the lake. Rates start at $290 per night and include full buffet breakfast and spa access.

The hotel recently launched its Herbal Hammam & Spa, which features Latin America's first Hammam (Turkish bath). For its holistic treatments, the spa incorporates aromatherapy elements from the neighboring forest, stones from the river and herbs from the mountains. Guests have free access to the indoor and outdoor pools, fitness area with cardiovascular machines, Finnish sauna and Hammam.

Nearby activities include skiing, nature walks, horseback riding, sailing and fly-fishing. Restaurants include Gourmet In-doors, offering a combination of Patagonian and Mediterranean cuisines and a wine list emphasizing Argentinean wines. The more casual El Puerto Correntoso, open during the summer months, has a deck next to the lake and an earthen oven. The hotel's Wine Bar serves up a classic Pisco Sour, as well as the opportunity to enjoy a Cuban cigar. (Room service is also available.)

CorrentosoLake and River Hotel is already conducting travel agent fam trips, as well as offering special rates for travel agents.
