Trinidad Getting Hyatt Regency, JFK Flights in December

Travel Agent met with Russell George, general manager of the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, to discuss the property's long-awaited December opening. The $375 million resort will have 428 guest rooms, including a Presidential Suite on the 22nd floor, overlooking the water. The property is primarily geared toward business clientele, with 43,000 square feet of meeting and function space, including a 16,000-square-foot Regency Ballroom, a 10,000 square-foot multipurpose exhibit room, 12 breakout rooms and two boardrooms.

What separates this property from other business-oriented hotels is that it also has a 9,000 square-foot spa with six treatment suites. George said agents could book the property for travel starting January 4; they receive a 10 percent commission. Call Charlaine Montano, director of sales, at 868-625-9266.

Because of the lucrative oil and gas business in Trinidad, George says the destination's main market is Houston, but with new flights from New York on the horizon, he expects that to change a bit. On December 20, Delta Air Lines will launch thrice-weekly nonstop flights from Kennedy Airport to Port of Spain, which is located about 30 minutes from the Hyatt. Visit www.trinidad.hyatt.com. (JP)
