Viceroy Zihuatanejo's New GM Plans New Initiatives

Viceroy Zihuatanejo, on Mexico's Pacific coast, is in for a fresh 2014. Last week Travel Agent sat down with Martin Kipping, the new general manager of the resort, who filled us in on what visitors to the luxury property can expect in the coming year.

The resort will undergo refurbishments and renovations over the next year and a half, starting with the beachfront suites and restaurants. "The resort has always had a traditional Mexican feel," Kipping tells us. "But it needs certain features that the luxury traveler has come to expect." Some of these features include windows outfitted with the proper glass in order to keep the AC in. Other, broader refurbishments include the addition of a menu of programs, such as an MMA boot camp, painting classes, cooking classes and outdoor activities. Kipping, who previously was at Viceroy Anguilla, wants to bring activities such as paddleboarding and yoga to Viceroy Zihuatanejo.

Kipping and his team are looking at a year to a year-and-a-half timeline in which to have the property reestablished. There will be a total of 48 rooms upon completion. The resort also has a spa, two restaurants and a bar.
