On-Site: Samana, Dominican Republic, Looks to Add JetBlue Flights From New York

SAMANA, Dominican Republic -- During our ongoing coverage of the 2011 Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (D.A.T.E.), Travel Agent learned that Samana, the Dominican Republic's blossoming new destination, is looking to get direct JetBlue flight from the U.S.

We were also told by representatives of the island that an American Eagle flight from the U.S. is also looking to be added. Both flights could be finalized by the end of the year and plans call for the JetBlue flight to be a direct flight from the John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York to Samana's fairly new Juan Bosch International Airport, which opened roughly four years ago.

The new flights could result in a huge increase in Americans to Samana, which is currently a huge local hot spot among wealthy Dominicans. The mostly family-oriented destination is home to a population of roughly 110,000 people and about 3,500 hotel rooms.
