Report: Rain, Flood Leaves Five Dead in Dominican Republic

February 9, 2009 By: Joe Pike

According to the Dominican Today, rain in the Dominican Republic's north region left five dead and forced 1,500 families to evacuate. The municipality Tamboril was declared in a state of emergency Sunday afternoon, when the Licey river overflowed its banks causing flooding downtown. Tavera dam was also drained and 1,500 families in vulnerable zones of Santiago were evacuated, as a precaution against an overflowing North Yaque river, according to the report.
