Playa del Amor Reopens After Coral Restoration Project

playa del amorAfter a three-month period of coral restoration, Playa del Amor in the Riviera Nayarit is reopening to visitors.

The National Commission for Protected Natural Areas has ordered more sustainable programs for visitors.

Playa del Amor will welcome up to 116 visitors per day, each arriving in boats of up to 15 people guided by tour operators. No more than 15 people at a time will be allowed on the beach. The 30 minute time limit to visit the beach will remain the same, and in order to conserve and protect the surrounding wildlife, visitors are prohibited from diving or wearing fins.

More than 50 percent of the planted coral has adhered to the marine substratum, and the monitored restoration of the coral reefs will be permanent. The new rules aimed to aid the health of the ecosystems and the satisfaction of visitors.

To provide visitors with additional activities at Islas Marietas, a new trail has been opened for exploration, similar to the nearby Playa la Nopalera and the Interpretative Trail on Isla Larga.

With the efforts made, Riviera Nayarit’s “Hidden Beach” should remain open to the public for the foreseeable future.
