Downton Abbey: Liberty Travel Offers UK Getaway

englndTravelers who are avid viewers of the hit PBS series Downton Abbey are likely to jump off their couches and onto a plane to take advantage of a chance to get an up-close-and-personal look at the sites and scenes made famous by this incredibly popular show, says Liberty Travel.

  • A professionally guided tour that will take Downton Abbey lovers inside Highclere Castle, made famous by series, and onto Bampton Village, used for outdoor scenes from the show. It also includes a walking tour of Oxford complete with time to stroll at leisure and take in the sights.  

The price for the Downton Abbey-inspired escape starts from $1,695 per person, based on double occupancy, Liberty reports. This is based on a departure from New York's JFK. (Additional departures cities are available and pricing will vary.)

The tour kicks off on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 with additional dates available in August and September.

This show has lived up to its hype and earned notoriety as Britain's highest-rated television drama in 2013, Liberty notes. More than 24 million viewers  tuned in to the third season of the series in the U.S., making it the most-watched drama in PBS history.  

Downton Abbey returned for its fourth season to Masterpiece on PBS on January 5, 2014, and recently completed a successful run in the UK drawing averaging a viewership of 11.8 million, or 20 percent of the UK population.
