London Hotels Charge Steep for Breakfast

August 24, 2012 By: Jena Tesse Fox

We here at Travel Agent love our English Breakfasts as much as the next Anglophile, but even we were surprised at today's report in the Telegraph: According to the newspaper, the quintessential combination of eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes and tomatoes (and, one would hope, beans on toast) could set a diner back as much as £39 at some of the capital’s more upscale hotels. That's close to $62.

The most expensive breakfast was found to be at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel (£39), with a five-star fry-up at The Dorchester coming in second, at £36.

Anyone staying in London will be hard pushed to find a hotel breakfast in a five-star hotel for less than £20, the mobile phone booking company Blink Booking, reported. And according to listings in The AA Best Hotel Guide, there are only four five-star hotels offering the national dish for less than £20.

Other hotels charging upwards of £30 are the Ritz, the Mandarin Oriental, the Savoy and the Corinthia London. The least expensive  five-star breakfast was offered at The Levin, a hotel in Knightsbridge, for £9.95.

What do you think of this $type?
