Norwegian, a low-cost airline, recently launched flights from Oakland International Airport to London’s Gatwick Airport, representing the first nonstop route from this airport to the United Kingdom.

Norwegian’s service from Oakland commenced two years ago, on May 3, 2014, when the carrier launched service to Stockholm, Sweden, followed by with service to Oslo, Norway a few weeks later. With this new route, the airline now offers more routes from California to Europe than any other airline, according to the company.

The Oakland to London route is one of eight new nonstop routes, including direct service from the U.S. to Paris that Norwegian has announced for 2016. On July 28, the airline’s first direct service from New York to Paris launches, followed by Los Angeles on July 30 and Fort Lauderdale on August 4.

Norwegian now offers 39 nonstop routes from the U.S. to London, Paris, Scandinavia and the Caribbean, providing more European routes than any other European airline.
