Treehouse Hotel to Open in Norfolk

March 9, 2012

The Daily Telegraph, March 09, 2012

Visitors to the Norwich and Norfolk festival in May are being invited to spend the night suspended between trees in a range of bizarrely shaped contraptions.

Nine temporary pods will be constructed in ancient woodland on the festival grounds, each with its own individual style.

Designs include a floating wooden airship, a mechanical lotus flower that opens up so each guest can sleep in a different petal, and a Pandora's box house made entirely of recycled rubbish.

Each pod can house between two and six people – but those without a head for heights may wish to approach with caution. Stays in some of the pod involve "perilous" climbs into the upper branches of trees; while others are designed to rock or sway.

Promoters describe the so-called "AirHotel" as a hotel "mixing circus, performance and installation with real life camping."

The performance element of the stay is provided by uniformed aerial hostesses, who will also provide room service.

The AirHotel project is an idea from Time Circus, a collection of Belgian artists, and according to promoters the concept is "completely unknown in this country" until now.

Pods cost from £35 per person, and organisers said there is still limited availability.

The festival runs from May 11 to 26. To book a stay in one of the pods, call 01603 766400. For more details visit the Norfolk and Norwich Festival Website ( ).
