Austrian Airlines Expands Leisure Destinations for 2015

austrian airlinesAustrian Airlines has released its summer 2015 schedule with a focus on leisure destinations, including new destinations Menorca, Mauritius, Miami and Odessa and expanded frequency to North America.

As of March 30, Austrian Airlines will also operate flights to Odessa, another destination in its focus market of Eastern Europe.

Towards the end of the summer flight schedule, Austrian Airlines will add a new route in the U.S. Starting on October 16, Austrian Airlines will operate a Boeing 777 aircraft on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays to Miami. The Miami gateway is Austrian’s sixth U.S. destination, adding to its existing flights to John F. Kennedy and Newark airports in New York, Washington, Chicago and Toronto in Canada. The airline is increasing the frequency of its flight service to North America due to an increased demand, and will operate flights to all its destinations on a daily basis.

Austria’s national carrier has also adapted its flight offering to reflect declining demand as a result of the ongoing crisis in its focus market of Eastern Europe. Capacities to Russia and the Ukraine were already optimized in the 2014/15 winter flight schedule, and most flights were cancelled to and from Rostov in Russia and Kharkov in the Ukraine. Flight service has been presently suspended to these two destinations as a result of weak demand. Austrian Airlines still operates flights to four destinations in the Ukraine: Dnepropetrovsk, Kiev, Lviv and the new Odessa route, along with three destinations in Russia: Krasnodar, Moscow and St. Petersburg.

Also this summer, the vacation brand myHoliday will expand service to Spain to a total of eight destinations, including the three Balearic Islands of Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca. Frequencies to Naples and Lamezia Therme in Italy will be increased with two additional direct weekly flights to Naples and one additional flight to Lamezia Therme per week.

The Lufthansa Group Airlines – Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Germanwings, Lufthansa and SWISS – will also add popular tourist and leisure-orientated destinations with further seasonal connections.
