British Airways' Strike Update

British Airways will meet with mediators today, May 17, to try and dispel tomorrow's impending strike by 12,000 cabin crew, reports

The discussions between British Airways and Unite union will be overseen by the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, the UK state mediator.

Members of Unite plan to strike for five days, beginning tomorrow. This will be the first of four walkouts.

"It does need to be solved," John Strickland, an aviation analyst at JLS Consulting Ltd. in London told Businessweek. "Both sides are going at it in a very aggressive way. It's not doing the company any good in the long term."
