Fear Itself...May 4, 2009 By: Jena Tesse Fox
I was going to write about the swine flu today, and how it is affecting travel to Europe, and how you can advise your clients to stay safe and healthy (well, safer and healthier, at least), but as I looked over the news from Europe for the week, I was struck by one common trend.
In spite of the economy, in spite of the flu, in spite of the thousand devils that are striking fear into the hearts of travelers…airlines are still expanding their services to Europe and around the world.
American Airlines is launching two new routes; one from Boston to London, the other from Texas to Madrid. Continental is offering flights from Cleveland to London. Even the MiddleEast is looking to connect: Air Arabia is starting flights from the United Arab EmiratesGreece to , and England’s bmi is looking to offer flights to Baghdad if the governments will agree.
Once again, the airlines are increasing the supply in order to increase the demand. Combined with some impressive deals (check out American’s offer of bonus miles), these airlines are making it easier for you to get your clients to Europe. Direct flights are bridging the world, and whatever you may think of the airline industry, by working together with them, you can keep your clients moving.
“The only thing we have to fear…is fear itself,” FDR once told a Depression-beleaguered America, before reminding them that “a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory.” You can be that leader for your clients. Whatever they may be afraid of, you have opportunities to help assuage their fears and concerns.
