Iceland Volcano May Be Settling

May 24, 2010 By: Jena Tesse Fox

Iceland Volcano Ash PlumeFinally, some good news for Europe: The BBC and other sources are reporting that the Icelandic volcano that has been disrupting air traffic for more than a month is showing a marked drop in activity.

Experts say the temperature in Eyjafjallajokull's crater appears to have fallen to 100 degrees centigrade, meaning it is now producing steam instead of magma.

But officials warned that it was too early to say whether the eruption was over completely.

Ash clouds from the volcano grounded thousands of flights last month.
