New Hotel Group Debuts with Six Iconic UK Properties

Guoman Hotels is making a push into the U.S. marketplace with a collection of top hotels that have been culled from the existing Thistle Hotels group in London.

Management has selected six hotels in London to debut this fall as their “signature brand experience,” investing more than $300 million in the renovation and design of the properties. The Guoman collection currently includes The Cumberland, located at the top of Park Lane; Charing Cross, a Victorian-era railroad hotel located near Trafalgar Square; and The Tower, which has views of London’s Tower Bridge. Set to join the Guoman portfolio is the Royal Horseguards, a traditionally British hotel on Whitehall Place, close to Westminster and the Houses of Parliament. Two additional hotels, The Grosvenor, next to Victoria Station (not to be confused with Grosvenor House), and the Marble Arch will join Guoman over the next three years.

While plans are for each hotel to maintain its own character, each property will be linked by a high level of service, as well as the “Guoman Bed,” which was created specifically for Guoman by Hypnos, a leading manufacturer of beds in the UK. All guest rooms in the portfolio will have plasma-screen TVs with satellite channels, and Elemis toiletries will be offered in the bathrooms. Sanjay Nijhawan, COO of Guoman, says that each hotel will have at least one fine-dining restaurant and destination bar with live entertainment in the evenings. The Guoman Club lounge will be available to those booking suites; special meetings services will also be available at each hotel.

Long term, Guoman expects to expand internationally, into Asia, says Nijhawan.

Lufthansa Ups Boston-Munich; Goes 100 Percent Paperless

Due to client demand, Lufthansa says it will, on October 26th, launch all-business class service six times per week between Boston and Munich. The route will be served with an Airbus A319 Corporate Jet operated by PrivateAir in a 48-seat, all-business class configuration. The new flight is a premium extension of Lufthansa's existing wide-body summer service between Boston and Munich, which daily offers 221 seats in a three-class configuration. It also complements the existing daily service between Boston and Frankfurt and the daily SWISS flight between Boston and Zurich.

Flight LH 425 will depart Boston at 8:15 pm and arrive in Munich at 9:45 a.m. the next morning. The return flight, LH 424, will depart Munich at 3:40 p.m. and arrive in Boston at 6:35 p.m. every day except Tuesdays. Visit, any local travel agent or call Lufthansa reservations at 800-645-3880.

Separately, Lufthansa says as of June 1, it will issue only electronic tickets, as well as for flights operated by all other IATA airlines. Going forward, Lufthansa passengers will be issued with an electronic ticket, or an “etix,” which can be used for checking online and printing out boarding passes at home or at the airport terminal.
