The Ellington, Leeds to Launch in September

Pantin Hotels says it will open The Ellington, a new luxury boutique property, set in the heart of Leeds’ financial district on September 8. Leeds is located on the River Aire in West Yorkshire, England.

The hotel, which has been carved out of three Georgian townhouses, is meant to reflect the glamour and sophistication of the 1950s. At the same time, however, the hotel will be high-tech, with plasma-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, three telephones, complimentary Wi-Fi, and an entertainment center for playing Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 in each of the 35 guest rooms.

The Restaurant at The Ellington will be run by acclaimed chef Albert Roux OBE, who will oversee the “Classic Modern” menu, which will be sourced locally whenever possible.

The Ellington is a member of The Leading Small Hotels of the World and the first in England outside London. Published rates start from $376 for a classic double bedroom.

Pantin Hotels is the luxury group created by David Pantin, previously the managing director of The Rocco Forte Collection and chairman of Dawnay Shore Hotels Plc. The Ellington is the group’s first property. The company’s goal is to open a number of hotels in the coming years, including The Crispin, an 84-room hotel and spa, due to open in 2011.

See The Impressionists’ Light in Florence

Rocco Forte’s Hotel Savoy in Florence has launched a new package which includes tickets to Impressionism: Painting Light, a new exhibition taking place at Palazzo Strozzi from 11 July to 28 September 2008.

Painting Light will examine some of the most famous canvases of the last century, including Monets, Van Goghs, and Renoirs, looking for clues as to where the paintings were made and under what conditions. Visitors will be able to look at these works of art through scientific eyes with the assistance of high-powered microscopes, infra-red and ultra-violet light to see what the traces left by brushes, pencils and spatulas can tell us.

Rocco Forte’s Hotel Savoy is a mere five-minute walk from Palazzo Strozzi and is only moments away from the city’s other key attractions, including the world-renowned Uffizi Gallery and the city’s famous Duomo.

The package costs from 394 Euro (approx $619) per double room, per night and includes breakfast, entrance into the exhibition and the catalogue.
