Airline Leaders Celebrate Return to Profitability

The International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) annual general meeting in Istanbul,  June 1-3, will celebrate the airline industry's transition to 100 percent e-ticketing globally on May 31 and the world airlines return to profit. IATA says the world’s airlines returned a $5.6 billion profit in 2007—the first in seven years.

Other topics include how the airlines will cope with the broadening U.S. economic crisis and fuel costs that continue skyward. IATA will also address the industry’s future challenges, including safety, security, environment, technology and liberalization.
