Autograph Collection, Marriott International's portfolio of boutique hotels, is launching the Independent Film Initiative. The program will be curated by well-known names in independent cinema field, including Franklin Leonard, founder and CEO of The Black List, and digital entertainment distributor FilmBuff.
In collaboration with these companies, Autograph Collection will bring film premieres, live performances, director talks, screenwriter residencies, and Autograph Collection’s own indie film channel to its guests.
The Independent Film Initiative will take place during January’s Sundance Film Festival with the launch of the Autograph Collection Hotels & The Black List Sundance Social Space. This will be a networking hub at Autograph Collection's Hotel Park City, where filmmakers will gather with Leonard and The Black List team.
The Annual Black List is a list of screenplays which is published once a year on to help match screenwriters with moviemakers. Autograph Collection Hotel Residencies will lend extra support to independent screenwriters affording them the luxury of researching and writing at an Autograph Collection hotel of their choice over the course of 2017.
Other Black List events to be held at various Autograph Collection hotels include: The 2017 Black List Screenwriter Labs, Black List Live, and The Black List Happy Hour. The first is a week-long series of workshops where non-professional screenwriters can meet with the pros; the second is a staged script reading of Black List scripts; and the last is a monthly going-on for the Black List community of writers.
A signature cocktail created by an Autograph Collection mixologist will debut at the first Happy Hour, and will thereafter be found on hotel bar menus.
Meanwhile, FilmBuff, a champion of independent film, will curate the Autograph Collection's Independent Film Channel. This channel will broadcast titles from FilmBuff's critically acclaimed library of 1,500 movies. The content will include feature films, award-winning documentaries, shorts, TV shows and webisodes.
Autograph Collection Hotels Premieres by FilmBuff, a series of three debuts of FilmBuff releases, will be shown throughout 2017 in screening rooms at Autograph Collection Hotels. Each premiere will have a cocktail reception and a Q&A with the director.
