Travel Leaders Associates has announced that its 17th Annual International Summit will convene in Shanghai, China, May 12-14, 2016, at the Jing An Shangri-La hotel.

The 2016 event will include exploration of the host city, including popular sites and off-the-beaten path experiences, as well as a wide range of pre- and post-tour opportunities throughout China, including in the Yunnan Province in southwestern China and the Gansu Province in the northwest, as well as Beijing, Xi’an, and a Yangtze river cruise.

The event will also provide networking opportunities for Travel Leaders Associate owners and managers. The welcome reception and business meeting will be held at the Jing An Shangri-La, which is in the city’s upscale Jing An district. The multi-day pre- and post-tour options to Yunnan and Gansu Provinces are in conjunction with Travel Leaders’ In-Country Partner, EXO Travel. Monograms, part of the Globus family of brands, is providing an exclusive six-day tour of Beijing and Xi’an for Travel Leaders owners and managers attending the International Summit, and  attendees also have the option of a post-Summit river cruise along the Yangtze river from Shanghai to Beijing with Viking River Cruises.

The agenda for the 2016 Travel Leaders International Summit includes the following:

Mandarin Yu Garden with Taoist Temple: Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in Gong Fu, a Chinese Tea Ceremony to be held at the Mandarin Yu Garden, an extensive Chinese garden located beside the City of God Temple in the northeast of the Old City of Shanghai. This unique immersion event will enable participating Travel Leaders to enjoy a traditional Chinese custom that many of their clients will want to experience.

Motorcycle Sidecar: Travel Leaders and their guests will be able to hop on a sidecar of a Chinese motorcycle to tour the rich art-deco heritage of Shanghai, the sites along the Huangpu River, as well as explore the extraordinary “marriage market,” where parents and grandparents hope to find a mate for their unmarried offspring.

City Bike Tour: This all-inclusive, small group bike tour will allow attendees to experience Shanghai for 3.5 hours. With an English-speaking guide, Summit participants will have the opportunity to explore a less touristy part of the city, which many guests to Shanghai don’t tend to see.

Architour: To learn about the history and creation of Shanghai’s state-of-the-art architectural marvels, local architects will join the group to share their passion and expertise on the city’s renowned landmarks. Options on this walking tour will include highlights of the former French Concession to learn about the history of the French presence in Shanghai and current life of Shanghainese in this part of the city; or the Bund ballade tour to marvel at Shanghai's unique buildings on both sides of its river, including the new Shanghai Tower and other recent architecture in Pudong, and the historic Puxi side.

Pujiang River Cruise: Beginning from the wharf at the Bund, this tour will allow attendees to admire the ultra-modern district of Pudong; known for its oriental Pearl Tower, the Jin Mao tower, and the new Shanghai Tower, the second tallest building in the world.

Tongli Water Village Tour: Attendees will be able to see how 15 small river lanes crisscross through the 1,000-plus-year-old village with 49 stone bridges in a variety of architectural styles. The buildings are well-preserved from the Ming and Qing Dynasties. This tour will be capped by lunch at the Old Tea House, giving attendees another taste of the local cuisine.
