After three months of being closed, Castaway Island, Fiji, has reopened its doors and is welcoming guests back to the island.
Due to the significant damage caused by February’s Tropical Cyclone Winston, Castaway Island focused all their efforts on cleaning up post-storm debris and rebuilding their beautiful property.
“Winston may have been classified as the strongest tropical cyclone to make landfall in Fiji in recorded history," said General Manager Steven Andrews in a written release, "but the reopening of our beautiful island resort just three short months after such a severe storm is proof that our Castaway Island vuvale, our family, is so much stronger and more resilient than any storm can be.”
In taking advantage of the downtime, Outrigger Resorts, which owns and manages the property, chose to invest further in the resort by upgrading and refurbishing a number of the bures and public spaces throughout the island. Fourteen of the 65 bures have been either completely rebuilt or upgraded, while still reflecting the comfortable and traditional Fijian design they are known for.
The opportunity was also taken to upgrade the outdoor kitchen servicing the resort’s award-winning 1808 "feet in the sand" restaurant.
To celebrate the reopening, Executive Chef Markus Nufer has created new menus for all of the resort’s four restaurants.
