Onsite: Fiji Bullish on Growth

Representatives of Fiji told Travel Agent that the 322-island nation was experiencing exceptional growth and investment at an intimate New York media event on Wednesday, hosted by the Fiji Visitors Bureau. Much of the growth is taking place in the hotel industry where 2,000 new rooms have come on line between 2004 and 2006. The hotel room tally currently stands at 9,000. Room expansion is also leading to more hotel openings in Fiji, including a July 1 opening of a new full-service, beachfront Hilton. Other hotels debuting in Fiji include Sofitel, Radisson and JW Marriott. A Westin that is already operating is being upgraded. Along with the new hotel openings, Fiji gave news on its international airline partner, Air Pacific. Starting next year in April, the airline will be making daily non-stop flights from Los Angeles' LAX. The carrier is also touting a new, low fare from Los Angeles between now and the end of March for $754 per person.
