Outrigger Resorts' Castaway Island Fiji Names New Executive Chef

Chef Markus Nufer has returned to his home in Fiji to become the executive chef of Castaway Island Fiji after an impressive career with Crystal Cruises.

In 1991, he moved to Fiji to become sous chef for the Regent Four Seasons Resort before taking up a position with the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong as sous chef.

In search of a challenge, he joined Crystal Cruises as "chef de cuisine" on the Crystal Symphony and was quickly promoted to executive chef working across the Crystal Cruises fleet, a position he held for 16 years.

Nufer has now dropped anchor at Outrigger Resorts' Castaway Island and is looking forward to blending his global experience with the Asian, Indian and Fijian flavours for which the resort’s cuisine is known.

"My home is Fiji," said Nufer in a written release. "I live here with my wife Maureen and my son Nicholas. We got married on the island of Modriki in 2000, where they made the movie Castaway with Tom Hanks."
