On April 25, 2013, Spirit Airlines launched daily nonstop service from Texas’ DFW International Airport to Cancun, Mexico. This marks Spirit Airlines’ second destination from DFW into the Mexican market. Spirit launched its operations at DFW in May of 2011 with service to two cities, Fort Lauderdale and Las Vegas, and has rapidly expanded its operation at DFW since then. On the twenty-fifth, Spirit also began daily nonstop service to Los Angeles (LAX) and Oakland (OAK), bringing the total number of nonstop Spirit destinations from DFW up to 24.
In addition to the new nonstop services, Spirit has also resumed its scheduled seasonal service from DFW to Boston, Fort Myers, Myrtle Beach, and Portland, Oregon. In June, the low fare carrier will launch new nonstop service from DFW to the Latrobe/Pittsburgh area and Los Cabos, Mexico.
With the new flights from Spirit, DFW Airport continues to develop new air services for the citizens of Dallas and Fort Worth. In just over the past two years, DFW has expanded dramatically with the addition of seven new passenger airlines, thirteen new international destinations and thirteen new domestic destinations.
