haiti tourism adSunrise Airways, Haiti’s newest homegrown airline, and Tortola-based BVI Airways, recently announced that they have entered into a Subservice Flight Operations Agreement.

Under terms of the agreement, Sunrise Airways will operate BVI Airways flights from the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) in Tortola, British Virgin Islands to Dominica (DOM) and St. Maarten/St. Martin (SXM) while one BVI Airways aircraft undergoes scheduled maintenance checks and refurbishment in the United States.

“This is another proud feather in the cap of Sunrise Airways as we’re the first Haitian airline to be granted the necessary approvals to operate this type of Subservice Agreement for a foreign carrier," said Philippe Bayard, president of Sunrise Airways, in a written release. "This further underscores our uncompromising commitment to safety and the First World quality and professionalism of our overall flight operations. We are very pleased to be working with the team at BVI Airways and look forward to expanding our relationship in the future.”

Sunrise Airways obtained a BVI Foreign Operators Permit together with Seventh Freedom Rights approval in order to operate routes included in the Subservice Agreement.

“After a careful review of potential airline partners, Sunrise Airways emerged as the clear number-one choice," said Luke Smith, BVI Airways CEO. "Our companies share a number of synergies in terms of aircraft, safety standards, management style, and customer service aimed at raising the bar on aviation in the Caribbean. I’m confident our loyal passengers will enjoy the same comfortable and professional flight experience they’ve come to expect with BVI Airways as we move forward with Sunrise.”

Sunrise Airways will deploy its flagship Jetstream 32 EP aircraft on BVI Airways routes, offering the comfort of leather seating and ample in-cabin cargo room for a maximum capacity of 19 passengers. Scheduled service on BVI Airways routes operated by Sunrise Airways will run on Wednesdays and Saturdays in accordance with the regular BVI Airways flight schedule. Sunrise Airways will also operate charters on behalf of BVI Airways as requested.
