Iberia Adds New Routes to Middle East and South Africa

April 6, 2011 By: Deanna Ting

Spain-based Iberia now offers flights to Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, Doha, Bahrain, Muscat, and Cape Town thanks to its merger with British Airways (BA). The merger between the two European airlines, which was completed on Jan. 29, resulted in the formation of Europe’s third-largest airline.

Reciprocally, British Airways is adding Iberia flights to San José in Costa Rica and to Panama City, as well as Iberia’s Madrid-Johannesburg flights, as part of its new codeshare agreement with Iberia.

“Our merger means more travel choices for our customers, as Iberia opens its extensive Latin America network to BA passengers and BA offers Iberia customers its significant number of destinations in Asia and the Middle East,” said Manuel López Aguilar, Iberia’s commercial and clients director. “We are offering now eight new destinations and we will be offering many more in the coming months.”

Soon, Iberia says, the flights operated by each airline will progressively become available on the other’s website and telephone reservations lines. It will also be possible to combine fares of the two airlines, and to choose the most suitable.
