JetBlue Hinders Virgin America Thunder with SFO-FLL Flights

A single air route from the West Coast to Florida has become a hot commodity.

Yesterday, Virgin America announced it would launch flights from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) come November 18 and that it would be the only nonstop service between the two airports. But today, JetBlue begs to differ with an announcement that it will initiate its own flights between the same two airports beginning November 17.

JetBlue flights will depart SFO daily at 11:30 p.m. and arrive at FLL the next morning at 7:50 a.m. Return flights take off from FLL at 7:15 p.m. and arrive at SFO at 10:35 p.m.

The carrier has offered nonstop service between Los Angeles/Long Beach and Fort Lauderdale since 2003. From FLL, it offers connections to Austin, TX; Boston; Buffalo, Newburgh, White Plains, JFK and LaGuardia in New York; Cancun, Mexico; Charlotte and Raleigh/Durhams in North Carolina; L.A/Long Beach; Newark, NJ; Richmond, VA; Washington/Dulles and Caribbean destinations including Nassau, Bahamas and San Juan, Puerto Rico. From SFO, JetBlue offers daily connecting flights to Austin, TX; Boston; L.A./Long Beach, and New York.
