Largest Passenger Jet Adds Houston Airport to List of StopsDecember 7, 2011 By: Josey Bartlett
The largest passenger jet in the world makes plans for Houston.
On August 1, 2012 the George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) will host the double-deck A380, when Lufthansa upgrades the aircraft on its Houston to Frankfurt service. IAH will be Lufthansa's fourth A380 market served in the United States.
The jet has 63 percent more cabin space than the next largest aircraft, the Boeing 747-400, and can carry up to 526 passengers. There are eight seats in first class and 98 in business class. In addition the jet is significantly quieter in flight, has reduced fuel consumption and lower emission levels.
Over the next several month the Houston airport will renovate terminal D in preparation for the A380 service.
"The addition of the A380 ensures that international traffic will be able to grow in Houston," said Mario Diaz, Director of the Houston Airport System. "We expect to see more choices for travelers who are flying to Africa and the Middle East as they enjoy this new aircraft."
