Flash Floods Strike French Riviera

Var--Plage de la CourtadeCNN is reporting that 15 people were killed and 12 were missing after flash floods hit the southern region of Var in France.

The flooding began Tuesday, and more storms were expected Wednesday evening, the Var prefecture said in a statement. A thousand people have been placed in shelters, and some 1,200 firemen and 650 policemen were taking part in the rescue effort. More than 96,000 people were reportedly without electricity.

Var includes the Cote d'Azur, a popular tourist destination along the French Riviera.
